My Students

My students are learning to develop a love for reading and to build their identity as a reader, student, and person. They are developing critical skills that they will need for the rest of their lives. Being from a small town, sometimes it is hard for them to see the opportunities to do these things, especially without the right tools. It is my job to make sure they have those tools and opportunities and to grow and develop in and out of the classroom.

My Project

Currently, students' book options for literature circles are extremely limited; they are outdated and hard to connect to. By updating the books for my students to read, they will be better able to understand literature and they will be able to have some deeper conversations about the literature as well as their lives.

Students will use these books to discuss and understand necessary literature elements, but these books will also serve as a starting point for class discussions.

With these new books, students will be able to reach deeper levels of understanding about literature as well as themselves, which is not possible given their current literature choices.
