Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My crew is a set of amazing students at our growing school on the city's east side. They are active learners who take in everything around them. This crew is pushed to reach high expectations and they excel each and every day. Our crew exemplifies our habits of character: responsibility, cooperation, compassion, integrity, perseverance, curiosity, and creativity through their learning and actions.

Our crew is diverse in so many ways!

In order to support all learners, we are looking to diversify our classroom library and learning materials to meet each student where they are.

My Project

Throughout our school day, students spend time practicing independent reading using a variety of activities. While we love reading and find adventure in every book, we also love to play games that help us improve our reading skills.

We are eager readers ready to mix up the activities in our room!

Each day, students participate in a literacy workshop. This means, some students are reading with the teacher, while other students are working with materials in groups. During group work, differentiate materials so students can practice reading at their independent level. We know that meeting students where they are is critical to the work we do as educators. These materials will continue to provide our students with the opportunity to engage in work at their independent level.
