I am a first grade teacher in a title one school district. Despite this and the challenges they face in and outside of school, my students come in every day ready to learn. My school strives to be a growing literacy community and we place special emphasis on STEM. My school always has laughter and learning ringing through the halls.
My goal is to create a classroom where my students are able to grow as readers, writers, and engineers/problem solvers.
My classroom consists of 15 students that show different interests and strengths. My class is very diverse with students coming from many different backgrounds. I hope to encourage my students to have a love for learning and support them in their endeavors. Each day I look forward to seeing my students walk down the hallway ready to learn.
My Project
During my guided reading time, I have my students work in different rotations. I would like to incorporate listening to reading as a station to help my students become better readers. By listening to books, they are hearing a fluent reader read the books, which will be a model to them. I also would like to provide a comfy spot for the students to sit at while they are listening to the books.
I hope that a listening to reading station will expose my students to more stories and adventures.
I have always had a love for reading and I hope to instill this in my students. My students love listening to stories and this will be a great way for them to hear new adventures. I hope that my students imaginations and love of reading will grow with this listening to reading station.
