My students need an assortment of books ranging in both fiction and non-fiction. These wonderful books and CDs will be apart of the daily "Listen to Reading" center.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In first grade, our day typically starts off with the ELA literacy block. Together, we explore different types of texts, genres, and focus on comprehension skills. The highlight of literacy is centers. My students are thrilled to interact and explore in center groups where they are actively engage.
My students are the best of the best!
If they wasn't, I would say so! They are smart, witty, caring, and kind! They love learning! I find I have to tap into their interest and bring the creativity out. Most of the students come from broken homes. 98.1% of our students are on free and reduced lunch, so most come from high poverty families. Most of my families this year are single parent families, where the parent works two jobs to make ends meet. At times, my students do bring in the baggage of their home life. I see that it's my job to make school fun, interesting, safe, and a great place to learn. No matter how our school day turns out, a smile is on my face as they leave and I give hugs if needed on the way out. I always mention to them that I BELIEVE in them! They can do anything they set their mind too. I have to show them that someone cares about them!
My Project
My students will use the books, as well as Cd's, to actively be involved in reading. They will be listening to reading on the CD player and record their findings on a note-taking sheet that I will provide. Giving them the opportunity to listen to different authors and the styles of expressions in reading can also help with their reading. It will aid in my students' fluency and expression when reading. It also gives them an opportunity to listen/read different types of texts, authors, and genres.

These listening center books with Cd's are such a tremendous help to make sure this happens. My students will be given a variety of texts to help spark creativity and to enhance their learning. It gives them an opportunity to explore authors and topics they are interested in. I can make a difference in their lives and I believe you can, TOO! Help me to help them!
