Being a teacher is so rewarding. Each child has their own personality that makes up our classroom community! I strongly believe that connection before content is what creates a strong classroom community. Students have to know they are valued and welcomed every day when they walk through the door. They have to feel a sense of safety, belonging, and most important they need access to the proper tools/materials to be successful learners!
This is my third year teaching and I know this was the job I was meant to do.
All three years I have taught in first grade, with the best teaching team! This year I have 20 AMAZING little learners in my classroom. When things click with my children it’s like a light bulb flashing on and you know you did your job. I love the endless hugs and kind words we spread to each other. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Having another project fully funded will help me feel a sense of accomplishment. Having my project be funded will not only make me happy personally, but I know my students will be set up for success!
My Project
These read aloud materials will be used in my classroom, but will also be shared with the two other first grade classrooms. Each week we have a literacy based center that includes listening to reading. Listening to reading is our comprehension based center. As a first grade team we work closely together and share read aloud books. During listening to reading the group assigned to that center listens to the same story and then has an activity to complete based on the given story. Students complete this activity to show how much they comprehended from the story. Elements of this activity include setting, characters in the story, and asks students to explain their favorite part of the story.
