Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom work hard every day. Coming from diverse backgrounds and high-needs families, my students work on building GRIT and perseverance. We are a Title I school district and provide free breakfast and lunch to all our students.
My students work hard every day to overcome challenges and rise to the occasion.
Part of my job is to make those challenges seem fun and exciting. One way I like to engage my students is through STEAM based challenges. The students love being able to explore new materials and jump at the chance to put what they have learned to good use.
My Project
My students have created a love of reading this year. One activity that has helped build that love of reading, is listening to books read aloud on our iPads. As the year continues the inexpensive headphones that were purchased by myself, or brought from home are beginning to fall apart. I have purchased and asked for headphones so many times over the last few years, and each time they fall apart or get broken or lost. It's time for my students to have something they can use over and over again.
Whisper phones will help my students hear themselves read in a large and loud classroom.
We spend 30 minutes a day reading to ourselves, and struggle to hear ourselves read. With 28 students reading to themselves it can get pretty loud. Whisper phones will help us make sure that we are at an appropriate voice level.
