This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
One way of learning to read and build a love of reading is to listen to others read you stories.
My classroom is full of 28 wonderful first graders who attend a public charter school in a low income area.
They have a pure joy and excitement for school and learning. They are excited about new projects and activities, but one of their favorite times is story time!
My Project
I have requested a listening center so my students will be able to listen to books on CD during guided reading time. By helping to provide my class with a listening center, you are giving my students the gift of books and reading. The students will be able to listen to books on CD and follow along with the story. My students will then be able to use the book to complete a related activity.
Most of the books that my students love are the books that I've read to them. Through the listening center, students will be able to listen to, enjoy, and love even more stories.
By choosing to support this project, you will provide the students in my class with another opportunity to read!
Within my first grade class are students at a variety of reading levels. The best part of the listening center is that all students can participate, feel successful, and want to continue reading!
