My students need 25 new headphones to use on our classroom computers and in our computer lab for independent use of computers by many students at one time.
Technology has so much to add to education today. Every subject from reading to math to science can be greatly enhanced by online lessons, simulations, and activities that are readily available today. My students have access to computers, but need headphones to make the experience complete.
My 25 northern Michigan second graders are extremely energetic!
They also love computers. Any opportunity I give them to engage in activities on the computer is always met with great enthusiasm.
Even though our school district has experienced great financial challenges in recent years, we are very lucky to have three classroom computers and a computer lab in our building which we have access to at least once per week.
My Project
There are so many online resources available to young learners today. Since many of my students are beginning readers, they need activities with audio as well as written instructions.
With the twenty-five headphones I have requested, my students will be able to listen to fluent reading, be independent in learning new activities and educational games, and work through science simulations at their own pace. The sounds they hear will also keep my students more engaged in their learning.
Several years ago, teachers in our school were given a class set of headphones for use in our computer lab.
Over the years, of course, these have worn out, broken, and have been otherwise rendered unusable.
Due to the drastic cuts in educational funding, I have been unable to obtain replacement headphones. I feel that teaching my students to be computer literate is extremely important in today's digital age, and individual headphones are an essential accessory to help in achieving this goal!
