Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our school we strive to educate students, embrace diversity, and teach students to work together. Our school is a Title I school, located in the heart of Memphis, TN. We believe that all students deserve a quality education regardless of their zip code. Regardless of financial status and challenges, we strive to provide students with rigorous content, differentiated instruction, and a positive learning environment. Our goal is to help our students overcome barriers and develop into strong, educated, and successful people.
Our school is one of the most diverse schools in Memphis.
Serving students from all over the world, Our school chooses to embrace this diversity. At Our school you'll find students that speak Spanish, English, Arabic, and a wide array of languages in-between. Our school is a beautiful snapshot of the amazing things that can happen when we work together. While the diversity of Our school is what makes Our school beautiful, it does offer a few additional challenges. Language barriers and financial concerns provide our students with additional challenges. Our goal is to help our students overcome barriers and develop into strong, educated, and successful people.
My Project
Literacy is key. If students can read, they can do anything! In a community that thrives on diversity and many languages, learning to read in English can be a challenge. The materials requested will help students overcome the challenges that come with learning a new language, so that they can learn to read.
Regardless of location, ethnicity, or language, all students deserve access to materials that will help them grow as readers.
The headphones requested will be used daily in our classroom to help them become better readers. These materials will allow my students to not only read books on their reading levels, but they will give students the opportunity to listen to books. Listening to books models fluency and provides students with confidence to read on their own. Please consider helping my students become confident and fluent readers!
