Have you ever tried to read a medical textbook? If you have you know that it can be frustrating because the vocabulary and content is difficult to understand. That is how my second graders feel!
I am a second grade teacher to a class of amazing kids!
Our school is an International Baccalaureate school which means we focus on inquiry based lesson to enhance our students' learning. We try to teach our students through problem solving lessons instead of just paper and pencil. My students are eager to learn and love school! During my reading class we use a program called the Daily 5. This structure is designed to let students be independent while reading books the entire time. My students love reading because of this program so help me make reading even better!
My Project
We were very lucky as a class to be given a Kindle eReader. My students were so excited about using the Kindle during the Daily 5. The eReader allows my low level readers to feel empowered because no one knows what book they are reading! The eReader also reads the text aloud in order for my lower level students to hear what a fluent reader sounds like.
This grant I am asking for many books that would be uploaded to the eReader along with a gel cover to protect the Kindle. The books range from beginning of second grade to beginning of third grade in order for all my students to have access to the reader! The books are new and exciting books that my students can't get from my classroom library! The wide range of books will empower my students to read and enjoy reading! Every since the Kindle came in my students have begged to use it! I can't wait for them to get all the books they could imagine!

The Kindle helps my class be green but it also helps with lower level students feel confident in their reading! The books requested will help all students and really teach my kids to enjoy reading! Thank you for considering this grant and caring about all kids!
