This year, I am blessed to have 32 fourth graders, who are working diligently to reach their individual reading goals. The students are being tested through running record assessments, and their excitement for reading has made language arts a memorable experience, despite having a new language arts curriculum this year. This particular class is very compassionate and supportive of one another with students working productively in groups and with partners to complete work that challenges them individually and collectively. Currently, we are working on a unit about fairy tales and fables, and my favorite comment thus far from a student has been, "Excuse me. I have to share that I think Snow White's mom is a little weird for wanting a pasty white child with red lips and black hair." They are very charismatic, and I enjoy their thought provoking comments and visible excitement about reading in class this particular year.
These specific phones are able to support my students who are auditory learners and students who have visual processing disorders. Specifically, I have one student who is currently reading at a kindergarten level independently, and I have approximately ten students reading at a second grade level based on running record fluency assessments. This year, I am doing guided reading for all students to support fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. My students would benefit tremendously when learning new vocabulary words and sound patterns by hearing how these words sound when reading aloud to themselves and the teacher. I hope you will consider donating to my class project, as I believe fourth grade students will make fluency gains by having this resource available when reading in a guided reading group. Thank you for your donation!
