My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and experiences. As a Kindergarten teacher in a low income, rural school in Colorado, my job is to teach them the fundamentals of reading, writing and math but, just as important, teach them how to be good people who will become productive citizens.

Our classroom mission is: We all try hard; we never say "can't;" we take care of each other.

We all work hard every day, try to have as much fun as we can and are exhausted by the time the last bell of the day rings.

My Project

All of my students love to have books read to them and I believe that hearing stories is a very important part of learning to read. I would love to be able to set up a listening lab that my students could run independently.

By having a listening lab, students would be exposed to lots of good books, both fiction and non fiction, as well as things like vocabulary, comprehension, rhyming, word play and fluency.

Exposing young children to a variety of experiences and points of view also helps them become more open minded adults.

Many children are not lucky enough to have books read to them at home so they need as many chances as I can give them to have this experience at school.
