Listening to books is a very popular, highly-engaging, and powerful reading activity. I have a small number of mp3 players in my classroom now. I would really like to have a class set plus a couple spares.
I teach beginning readers in a dynamic classroom environment.
I have emergent readers, early readers, and transitional readers. My students LOVE listening to books on mp3! When I put out new titles, my students get visibly excited. They cannot wait to read the books!
My Project
As I work with small groups of readers, other students are doing reading activities, such as listening to books. Audio books are very engaging, and readers of all abilities benefit from the fluent, modeled reading.
I pair books and mp3 players (with audio tracks of someone reading the book) in large clear plastic baggies. I use shoelaces to make "necklaces" for the mini-clip mp3 players. This system/organization allows students to easily and independently use the materials.
Students enjoy reading books with mp3 players.
They are very engaged during these activities, and look forward to reading new titles! This very enjoyable, educational activity is helping to instill a love of reading! Thank you for considering this project.
