The love of reading can be empowered by my 1st graders when they listen to an awesome story on CD with their friends. This is the time to instill good reading habits with fun activities to do. Therefore, by having a listening station set up for the children their love for reading will explode.
We are a first grade classroom with 24 students in an urban school.
My students are an awesome group with 15 boys and 9 girls. They are kind and helpful children and really want to learn.
This is my first year having a little girl who is in a wheelchair, and she does not have use of her hands or legs. My students love her and want her to be part of the group at all times. She also wants to join in but has difficulty because of her disability. We all try our best to make her feel part of the group. Therefore by having a listening station this little girl can work with the other children in a nonthreatening way. I've also found that everyone loves listening to stories on CD and they want to listen more.
My Project
My students really need a new CD player that works and a storage unit to make their new listening station a place for them to enjoy the power of words and learning to read. The items requested will be used in our Listening Station during our 90 minute Literacy Block. However, they can also use this station when free time is available. By listening to different stories on CD it can only help reinforce how to read with fluency and vocabulary can increase.
Watching my students learn how to read is one of the most fascinating aspects of my job.
It is amazing what these little minds can absorb. By having a listening station for my students, with an organized space, it can tap into their learning of reading in a positive and fun way. I would like to thank you for supporting my students in knocking down the barrier to getting resources that are necessary for their success. I hope you will view my request and help us out with a donation.
