This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at a Title One school in which most students speak a different language at home. Majority of the students are from Hispanic background. I teach a variety of subjects from reading/math to science and social studies. At the school I teach in, 100% of the students have a free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students do not speak English at home, come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. These elementary students also come from single-parent homes, some have grandparents raising them or are in financial need.
My Project
I am requesting a set of wireless classroom headphones along with a Storyteller Read-Along Library set to use in my small flexible reading groups. My goal is to improve reading among my students.
The Storyteller Read-Along Library and wireless headsets will play a vital role in the students' center time as their reading skills will be enhanced through listening.
Students will be more focused as they manage the stories.
The students are at varying learning levels and will need all the support they can get. Hence, I believe with the use of digital devices they can listen to and follow the stories. This will heightening the interest of each student as they can replay each story as often as they like.
