Students LOVE listening to stories being read to them. What if they could be able to go to a listening station to listen to a piece of literature? What if a student who struggles with reading could listen to that piece of literature on a CD player within the classroom?
I have 25 fourth graders that I want to instill a passion for reading in.
My fourth graders range in abilities and are each unique. I want each of them to know and believe they are successful and great readers. In order to do this, I need to provide them with a variety of tools and resources to help them become successful. Not only that, I would like them to leave the year with a passion to read.
My Project
We have various stations within our classrooms that students may go to. The one station we have yet to start, is listening station. Listening station is by far one of the most loved stations in reading. Students rarely get a chance to listen to stories within the school day. With the portable CD player, students will be able to listen to pieces of literature of their choosing. Research has proved that listening to stories will increase vocabulary and comprehension skills.
I have students that struggle with reading and the CD players would help these students be able to work on essential skills with comprehension by listening to literature when they are not at the stage to read independently.
By providing our classroom with CD players, you will be providing students with even more tools to become successful readers.
My hope is for my students to become passionate readers and share the passion with others.
