Mrs. Washington from North Miami Beach FL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 4 sets of 10 leveled reading books, privacy partitions for testing, a privacy partition storage rack and 8 headphones for our reading center.

"What time is it?" is what I always ask my second-grade students every day. They always answer with a resounding, "Time to learn something new!" as they enter my class with smiles on their tiny faces.
Our elementary school has a high number of students who are first-generation immigrants from Haiti, who were affected by Hurricane Irma's destruction, and now we have started welcoming students displaced by Hurricane Maria.
As a result, basic amenities that they need to prosper and succeed, are not always readily available to them.
Even though we have to cater for and adapt to such a diverse range of learning needs, we strongly believe that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology. As their second-grade reading, math, language arts, social studies and science teacher, my main objective is to enhance and improve their young learning experiences, especially when it pertains to their learning environment.
Our second-grade classroom is in dire need of new material to read. Our book center/library is very limited and most of the students have already checked in and out (multiple times) the books we have. We need a library set of books to add to our small inventory, so my 2nd-grade students cannot only improve their literacy skills- but also open the doors of their imagination.
After Hurricane Irma, the local library was closed for a while and students were without new reading materials until they reopened.
This made me realize that I had to furnish my classroom to fill the needs of my students and nourish their desire to read. I decided to request a library set that they can access online, whether they are in the library, at home, in school or on a cell phone.
Multiple studies have shown that imagining stories helps activate the regions of your brain responsible for better understanding others and seeing the world from a new perspective.
They also need partitions to place on top of their desks for when they are taking quizzes or tests. The headphones are needed for our listening center.
