Listening Makes Great Learners

Help me give my students two new listening stations with SanDisk MP3 players and headphones to help them develop fluency and critical listening skills.

My Students

I LOVE first grade!! I am honored to teach 22 of the most loving, energetic first graders I know. I am always impressed by how excited they are to learn each and every day. They show perseverance in all that they do. Through all the uncertainties this year has brought, they continue to push forward with positive attitudes and the desire to be successful.

My Project

The last few years have been difficult with students learning in person as well as having to have school closures. Across the board reading levels have been a lot lower then in years past. A reading center would greatly benefit students by allowing them to listen to stories to hear models of fluent reading. It would also help them learn to read with expression and develop comprehension skills. Listening centers can also provide an opportunity for students to decode unfamiliar words as well as learn new vocabulary. The selected books for the listening center could also expand the students interests and introduce them to new genres they may not have considered before. Listening centers could also provide an opportunity for the student to relax and enjoy a story.
