This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in my class are in a low-income/high poverty school district. Students in our class range from those with preschool experience to those with no school experience. There are a variety of learning styles in our class. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make my students fall in love with learning.
These kindergarteners are eager to learn.
They take pride in their academic growth and love to show what they can do.
My Project
A listening center will provide my students with independence during small group. Students will be able to choose books and listen to stories being read to them. This is very important for students when learning to read fluently. After students listen to a story they would be expected to complete a simple response to literacy page that will help increase their learning.
My goal is to expose my students to as many fluent readers as possible.
By allowing them to listen to stories they will do just that - listen to fluent readers - which will ultimately improve their individual reading level. Our listening center needs books and CDs to listen to. We are also in need of a stand to hold the listening center.
