Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"To first grade and beyond!" This is our classroom mantra, my 24 students work hard everyday to create a future for themselves that extends to "first grade and beyond." However as hard as they work I can never seem to expose them to enough! They deserve so much more.
I work everyday with 24 bright, excited, challenging and thoughtful kindergarten students.
They stem from the various Latino and Mexican communities that surround our campus. There parents have taken the first step in creating a solid education for their students by enrolling them in our Charter Public School. But their is so much more to be done as a teacher at my school. We strive to give our parents and students the resources that will help them learn the English language, converse in this second language and perform in English and Spanish at a the highest level possible.
My Project
For my students I am asking for a listening station and head phones. This will allow my students to hear new and old stories, follow along with text in the book and build their comprehension. The phonics games will allow them to practice hearing sounds and identify first and last letter sounds which is so important to our students ability to read and start writing. The other huge impact these resources will have is it will continue to expose my ESL students to more English directly in their ears! This is something they need desperately!
Please, help my students strengthen their reading brains and the knowledge of the English language by giving them resources that they will think is so much fun and will make them work without them even realizing it!
