My students range from Kindergarten to 5th grade. They come to me so I can teach them a specialized curriculum, so we can get them caught back up to where they should be. My students are multiple grade levels below where they should be when they come to me. I want to do all I can.

I want to do all I can to get them to be back on grade level and able to participate successfully in their regular classroom. We are one of the highest poverty rated schools in the district at the elementary level. Many of these kids come to school to get what they need, and not just an education. We have many that come for food and safety reasons. I want to be the one who gives them a secure feeling and let them know I am here for them regardless of where they come from. I let them know I care about where they are going.
The district has purchased some computer based programs for the children, but the headphones have long been worn out. I purchased some, but they do not have the multimedia, so they cannot hear themselves after reading. These are also becoming unreliable and have a lot of static to them. I want them to not only be able to hear, but to be able to listen as well with the new headphones.
My Project
My students are required to be on a curriculum based computer program for at least 15 minutes daily per class. I have some students that only come in for math and some for reading, while some come in for math and reading. They do their required computer time and then I reteach what they are having difficulties with. The computer program helps to track the progress of my students. I am afraid that at this point, many students may be getting things wrong due to the fact that they cannot hear at times because of the worn out headphones.
A donation to this project will help me to show that these kids are WORTH it.
Some believe because they are in special education, they do not count. Help me to show them that they ARE special and that they are WORTH it. They need to have equipment that helps them to believe in themselves and know that someone else believed in them as well.
