As a teacher in a 100% low-income/ poverty school, I see the many challenges my students face on the daily basis. Many times their home lives can put them at a disadvantage in school. Despite these hardships they face, I strive to provide my students with a creative and engaging experience in school. I want every one of my students to leave my room as a life long learner.
My students are full of energy and always moving!
They love to read, work in groups, and just crave positive attention. Many of these students' backgrounds have prevented them from having a 'head start' at school. The majority of my students come from homes that are not seen as 'typical' so they don't always have the childhood many are blessed with. As a result of this, and other factors, many of my students are a level or more behind where they should be.
I sadly am not able to control what my students experience at home, but I am able to make their time in school a fun and loving experience. By creating an engaging and positive classroom environment, I hope to encourage my students to be their best.
My Project
My first graders love to use technology in our classroom! We use so many different educational apps and programs on the iPads and computers we have access to. The only problem? Not enough headphones to go around. This leaves students distracted and straining to hear their activity over the sounds of their classmates. Many parents were unable to send in headphones as a school supply due to the low-income nature of the school's population. I want to remedy this situation by allowing my students access to a class set of quality headphones.
Imagine this; a classroom full of students focused on their work!
Maybe reading a digital book, practicing math facts by playing a game, or working on a digital lesson. Technology is a great asset in my classroom. I want to make sure each of my students has the opportunity to grow their learning through the utilization of technology.
