Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Kindergarten students begin their education with limited literacy and language skills.
My Kindergarten students are from a small agricultural town in central California.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and come into my classroom with limited or no comprehension / use of English. They are excited to learn and love school.
My Project
We are requesting a Listening Center for our classroom. The center I have chosen includes an iPod dock, a CD player, a cassette player and headphones for 6 students. I use my personal iPod in the classroom, so that my students will be exposed to current technology. But, we currently do not have a way to use our iPod for a listening center. This set up will be perfect for our classroom, as we will use it for small groups during literacy centers. We have access to many books and stories on CD and Cassette as well. But, up to now, we have not had a device to use them on. We will use this listening center to listen to books that come with audio, as well as listening to recordings that I have made to guide my students through a lesson or activity. This listening center will be a tool that I can use to work with two groups at a time. With one teacher in a classroom of 30 Kindergarten students, being able to multiply my effectiveness will be priceless to our classroom.
Using this listening center will expose my students to literature and build their literacy skills and fluency.
It will also increase the language exposure and help to build the language for my English Language Learners. We would appreciate your support and your willingness to partner with us in learning.
