Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help our first graders learn to read! I am a first grade teacher in a low socio-economic area. I teach in a highly Spanish-speaking community where many of my students hear only Spanish at home.
Our classroom needs a new listening station. Our old listening station junction box no longer works, so listening to books on tape or cd in the classroom becomes a distraction for kids working on other reading centers. We also have a new reading adoption this year which is wonderful but requires voice recorders for several of the activities to promote reading fluency and accuracy. My students who have limited English at home need all the help they can get in the classroom to learn a second language and become confident readers.
I am asking for a new listening station junction box to allow students to listen to books on tape or cd in small groups using headphones. I have the headphones and the tape/cd player, we just need the component that brings the two together! We also need voice recorders so the students can record and listen to themselves while reading. This will help them build confidence by hearing themselves reading our classroom books.
Your help will make it possible for my students to become confident readers. It is difficult enough for a student to learn to read without the obstacle of learning to read in a second language. Your help now helps build such a solid base for these students to ensure their success in the future.
