Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an amazing and dynamic group of second graders.
I teach a wonderful group of second-grade students at a small Title I (low socioeconomic status) school.
This means that many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Just like any class, my students have a variety of needs.
In second grade, students need to be able to reading fluently and have comprehension. Having a listening center for students to use during their daily five will help build fluency.
My Project
In second grade students are tested on their fluency and retell (comprehension) abilities three times a year. Therefore, we focus highly on building their fluency and comprehension. One of the ways we do this is through listening to stories as they follow along.
Listening to reading is a big part of building fluency and comprehension.
Students having a listening center to use during their daily five rotations will help them focus on the story and be able to follow the reading better. This will help build their fluency and comprehension. Listening to reading will help the students who struggle with reading start to build their confidence in reading, leading to better fluency and comprehension.
