My students walk in each morning with bright smiling faces ready to tackle our day of learning through play! The students in my inclusion based classroom range from the ages of 3-5 years old with many of them experiencing school for the first time.
It is my job as a preschool intervention specialist to not only create a safe and nurturing environment but to 'Keep the Light Shining' when it comes to learning each day!
My school is comprised of 11 preschool classrooms that service a total of 120 preschoolers. Half of the children serviced include children with developmental disabilities including, developmental delays, communication delays and multi-sensory issues.
Each day in my classroom, I focus on not only the needs of all my students, but on how everyone is treated with the same expectations. Having a developmental delay does not hinder the learning or classroom environment within in our room. Each child is special in their own way and we all work together to embrace that uniqueness!
My Project
A listening center is a multisensory way to incorporate not only language and literacy skills into the curriculum but also social-emotional skills as well. With a Comfy Couch and a Listening Player Unit, the students will be able to use the materials during center time free choice play to encourage listening skills.
Listening skills encourage active listening, attending and promote a sense of calmness.
Student's will be able to use the listening center as a quiet spot in our classroom. They will be able to focus on their individual needs including following along with books on CD, or just by having that nice calm down sensory time!
