We are an urban elementary school in Houston, serving nearly 800 Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Approximately 35% of our student body has qualified for Title I assistance, which means that those students come from low socioeconomic homes or are considered to be at-risk.
When you enter our school, you can tell that we are passionate about our children and their education.
Our students are excited about coming to school, and each of them knows that they are important! We work hard to ensure that every single student reaches their potential and beyond. Their potential is unlimited, and we tell them this every day. We want them to know that they can rise above any situation, discover a love for learning, and achieve their dreams.
Last year, nearly 100 of our families were displaced from their homes due to Hurricane Harvey. Our school came together to provide physical and emotional support for each of these families, and we continue to do so as they rebuild. We provide access to resources they may have lost and stability that many still need. Our school is an essential piece of our community's restoration.
My Project
Our library would truly benefit from having audio book centers available to students during free reading time. We are requesting two classroom CD/Bluetooth players, headphones, and an assortment of new and classic children's books with CDs.
We are always looking for new ways to encourage every student to experience the magic of books!
Listening centers provide an engaging way for new readers, reluctant readers, and auditory learners to hear some of their favorite stories read to them while following along with the printed text. It would be a wonderful supplement to our library program and encourage all students to get lost in a book!
