This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students and I will be together for 3 years looping through Kindergarten, First, and Second grades. I love when they shine with pride as they identify letters, discover sounds, and add number. They love to learn!
My students are special because despite the challenges they face daily, they are kind, thoughtful, creative, and full of questions!
They look forward to collaborative hands-on engaging projects and challenges. They come to school each day ready to try new things in order to grow both personally and academically.
My Project
Children take great pleasure in listening to stories. CD's that come with a copy of the book are particularly valuable because the child can follow along as the narrator reads.
Hearing a book read on tape helps the child see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way.
Audio books also give an important introduction to listening — a skill that children must master in order to learn to read.
Many books on tape have interesting sound effects, music, and multiple narrators that are especially motivating and fun for young children. They show reading as a source of pleasure rather than a skill, and make children eager to learn how to read.
With this listening center, children can listen to the same book at the same time. The more they listen, the greater the likelihood that they will learn new vocabulary words. And, when listening with a special friend, the opportunities for creative play are endless.
