This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is thriving with 25 amazing, individual personalities. Many of the students that make up our class family come from different backgrounds. My school consists of a very high percent of African American and Hispanic students. Although we are not technically considered to be an inner-city school, the students face many of the same obstacles as those who are. Being a 'school family' and having such strong bonds and connections with my wonderful students is so very important to me as their teacher. Coming from such a high poverty area, with VERY LITTLE to NO parent involvement or communication; my job is to love and cherish those children, put books in their hands, give them the experiences and chances that they have never gotten to experience before in their lives. I spend every second that I have with them trying to give them every single thing that I can to make each and every one of those kids successful.
My students are lacking many of the basic experiences that so many of us take for granted daily, the technology, even lacking the everyday supplies to complete basic work inside the classroom or at home.
My Project
My students have a variety of different needs and learning styles. I want to provide them with a listening center to offer a way of learning strengthened with audio. Students will be able to develop critical listening skills and increase their fluency in reading and understanding. They will be able to explore new genres of literature and be able to follow along both visually and audially.
My students are a great group of individuals that deserve every oppurtunity to become successful.
I want to open their eyes to the wonderful world of literature. To be able to do this would be an amazing opportunity to help foster their growth and amazement.
