This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class consists of 20 of the most remarkable students I have ever known! Students in my class come from a variety of economic backgrounds. Over 86% of our school receives free or reduced-price lunch.
My students come to school eager to learn and ready to show the world that they are the BEST!
They are creative, compassionate, and fearless. "Can't" is not a word in their vocabulary. They push themselves and each other to rise above whatever obstacle is in front of them. They love all subject areas and are always up for a challenge. I plan to deepen their love for learning by making learning fun! When provided with essential tools for learning, my students will flourish.
My Project
I am asking for a listening center and books for my classroom to flourish my students' love for reading. Helping our classroom with the funds for this technology would allow groups of students to listen to stories being read to them during literacy centers while they closely follow along with the words on the pages. As researched-based best practices suggest, following along to stories read-aloud greatly improves students' reading as it models fluency, accuracy, and expression at a steady rate. These components are crucial to engaging students in the adventures of texts.
The experience of reading independently and getting lost in a great book is truly invaluable!
A listening center will develop their reading level, push them to grade level texts, and set them on a path future success as their love for reading is enhanced.
