My Students

I am an early childhood teacher who works with students ages 3-5 with special needs. These students attend a Title I public school in an urban area of Texas. For many of these students this is their 1st experience in the school environment and in addition to their disabilities, many are also English language learners. Several of our families live below the poverty level and have limited access to educational materials such as books, puzzles, writing utensils and paper. We work hard to make this a positive learning experience for all of our families.

My Project

This project is intended to provide my students with the opportunity to enjoy looking at and listening to stories. Because many of my students' families live below the poverty level, they have no books in their homes or adults who are available or capable of reading to them.

Giving students the opportunity to repeatedly listen to and look at the same books will enhance their learning and provide them with a boost of self esteem by reading the book independently.

Exposing my students to literature in a positive, relaxing environment that hopefully will help them to foster a love of literature.
