My Students
Our students attend a Title I kindergarten through eighth grade, bilingual school in downtown Santa Ana, California, a low-income and high-risk community. The mission of our school is to nurture all learners to become creative, critical thinkers by providing high quality standards-based instruction through the arts, technology, language and culture in Spanish and English.
70% of our students live below the poverty line and 20% are homeless.
We believe all students can be successful and learn best through self-inquiry, hands-on experiences, and fostering their love for learning. We strive to meet the wholistic needs of the child.
My Project
Having the opportunity to listen to rich literature is vital when learning to read, write and speak in two languages. Our students will benefit from having a listening center where they can listen to stories in both languages to expand their vocabulary and foster a love for reading. My students need opportunities to engage in reading because school may be the only place where they are read to. A love for reading can lead to success in second grade and beyond. My students deserve this opportunity to listen to stories, in these Spanish Picture Book Read-Alongs, which may inspire them to one day write their own!
