My students need a listening center with CD, tape, and 8 headphones. This center will increase listening comprehension and my students' proficiency in literary components.
I am a first year teacher hired into a school without the bells and whistles of many! During my internship a listening center was crucial for listening comprehension, and my students connected to books they otherwise would not be able to read. I could not imagine my classroom without this tool!
My students are kindergartners.
They are diverse and bright but I am their third teacher this year! They have had a rough start, but with the right tools and a teacher who advocates for them, we can turn this year around! My school is Title 1 (more than 80 percent free and reduced lunch) and as a first year teacher I don't have much in my classroom. My students deserve the best but I can't give it to them without your help!
My Project
My students need LOTS of exposure to familiar reads so that they can begin to explore the elements of literature! I am their third teacher and they have gotten very behind with little modeling of great fluency! I am only one person and can only do so many read alouds. With this listening center possibilities are endless. Students can listen to books then complete higher order activities in small group while I work with other students students that need remediation. I know how to record books and could make a CD for every book in my classroom library! This listening center is a necessity for my reading rich classroom!
With this listening center I can create custom CDs with my voice that read the book and point out literary elements we are focusing on such as character, setting, major events, and reactions.
Modeled fluency creates better readers and better readers are better leaders!!! My students will reap the benefits of this listening center for years to come! And the students AFTER that for years to come!
