My Students

I have been a teacher for 10 years and not once had the opportunity to have a listening center in my classroom. I have been reading how having a listening center in the classroom improves fluency and expression in their own reading.

I have a classroom full of wonderful Kindergarten children who come from a variety of backgrounds.

They are superior listeners and regardless where they come from, they come in the door ready to learn! They enjoy learning new things and using technology in the classroom. Having a listening center would expose them to fluent and expressive reading and manage time during literacy centers.

My Project

During literacy centers my students are independently working out in the classroom while I am teaching reading. Having a listening center as one of their stations will help them to be engaged and hear fluent reading. Most of my class has never even heard of a listening center and this would be an exciting new tool to use in our classroom!

I truly believe having this listening center will improve my students reading skills and enjoyment of reading.

I do not have enough money in my classroom budget to purchase this but feel it's essential to have one in a kindergarten classroom. I am hoping we get enough donations to receive this and open the door to a new way to listen and learn through stories.
