Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school (kindergarten to 8th grade), my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. The students at my school all receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of students have or continue to suffer some sort of trauma in their short life.

What happens outside my door is out of control most of the time, but it is my priority to make each child's learning experience engaging and academic.

My Project

The listening center is used to enhance the life long love of reading and allows students in my classroom to build early listening skills.

Students will be exposed to a wide variety of literature at the listening center.

Students will be given the opportunity to listen to stories that have been previously read aloud in the classroom and new stories that they have never heard.

Students work on following the text from left to right. Students also work on comprehension skills (retelling, characters and setting) while engaging with after reading activities. These skills set up students to be successful readers.
