In the last two years I have been trying to get a listening center established in my classroom for my students. I teach a self-contained fourth grade class in a Chicago Public School. The majority of my students' parents are non-English readers.
I know a listening center would greatly benefit all my students' reading skills. First, it would provide another opportunity to read and learn in the classroom. This center will also extend to the students' home; they would be able to take home the book/audio to continue to read at home. Lastly, the center will provide my slower learners a way to have successful reading experiences.
I truly believe this center will help me to instill the passion for reading into all of my students.
My DREAM is to have a center that can have five to six students at the center with numerous choices of literature to select from and of course the equipment readily available to them.
