Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a unique, blended, public Montessori program which offers quality education to a multi-aged classroom of three to six year old students. We teach Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, and Language lessons to prepare them for bigger, more abstract work. Having the students stay with us for three years, gives us the opportunity to build strong home/school relationships.
Our students come to us from an urban environment in which resources run scarce and teachers have to find imaginative ways to engage them.
Ninety-eight percent of our students are eligible for free or reduced price lunches, yet they all arrive with smiles on their faces ready to take charge of their future!
My Project
I feel that reading is one of the single most important factors that create success for our young learners. Connecting with the ideas and images from an author and illustrator can create new levels of understanding for the young reader.
Having an accessible listening center with read aloud books will be the perfect tool for our classroom of young learners.
Students will able to experience book handling in an encouraging and supported environment. There is no substitution for holding a real book in your hand and turing the pages. Having books read aloud with inflection and fluent reading as often as possible helps students with vocabulary development and confidence building!
