My Students
Moving to a new area is never easy. Imagine moving to a new place and in addition to having to make new friends, learn new routines, you now have to learn a whole new language on top of it!
I work in a Title I school, with a high population of ESOL students, many of whom are new to the country and speak little to no English.
All of my students are enthusiastic about being in school and have a true want to learn about their new homes and their new language.
My Project
Research shows that interactive read alouds and listening to fluent reading is essential for building effective, fluent readers. I choose this listening center from Kaplan since it will accommodate small groups in my classroom and allow them to use it as a center.
Listening to others read helps students build vocabulary skills as well as engages students in their readings.
With this new listening center, students will be able to take charge of their own reading.
In our listening center, we will be able to foster effective reading skills as well as expand their knowledge and love of reading! These materials will go a long way in making our students better readers!
