My first graders are amazingly inquisitive and thoughtful. They are learning to be flexible, creative thinkers. My first-grade students are just learning to read and are building their identities as students, learners, and community members.
I teach first grade in a very diverse school district, where over 50 languages are spoken and more than three quarters of students receiving free or reduced lunch.
My goal as a teacher is to provide a safe and positive learning environment for every child in my class, as well as creating lifelong learners.
My Project
As our reading groups have shifted, our classroom could use one more MP3 player for our listening to reading station. The other headphones that we use could also really use an update!
My students LOVE to access reading and math in different ways and allowing them to explore learning through technology keeps my students interested and engaged in learning.
It also builds the skills they need for an increasingly online and computer-based world! These students don't all have access to technology at home so it is important that we build those skills at school.
This project will help our reading groups run smoothly and allow me to focus on conferring with students rather than solving technology hiccups.
