This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a high school life skills program on the Southwest side of Chicago. Being a neighborhood school, and over 80% Hispanic and 20% African American, these students are often overlooked.
My classroom serves 25 students with autism and other intellectual disabilities.
My students work on both academic and life skills, in hopes of becoming more independent in their future. Though they might act, look, and learn differently; they deserve every opportunity to receive the best education possible. Thank you in advance for making a difference in my classroom.
My Project
I am asking for a classroom Listening Center which includes: 4 washable headphones, a CD player, a Read Along Library and a Building Vocabulary Skill Packet. This is a budget-friendly option to include more technology in our classroom. A Listening Center will allow students to work independently or with peers without teacher supervision. This will make more time for progress monitoring and one on one teacher interventions.
The listening center will improve student fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
All of my students love books and music. Each story in the Read Along Library has engaging music as the narrator reads. The Classroom Listening Center can be used for positive reinforcement and a calming tool for hyperactive students.
