Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a First Grade teacher in a Title One school. All of my children are eager to read and be read to. Using educational centers in the classroom allows me to have time with smaller groups in order to teach reading. One item for a classroom center that is invaluable is a listening center. Listening Centers provide the opportunity for the children to hear stories told by other people. This helps them learn to create "voice" when reading and teaches them how fluent sentences and stories should sound. It also allows students to follow along with written text while listening. Many of my students speak English as a second language. A listening center is a good way to immerse these children in the English language while not being disturbed by others. They can listen to stories over and over as they learn the new words. I am asking for a listening center which is comprised of multiple headphones, a stereo CD/cassette player with a multiple jack set up and a case or rack that holds everything securely. This will allow more than one child to participate at the center at one time. This type of center will make learning fun and enjoyable for my students for years to come. Please consider funding this request that will definitely help not only my English learners but all of my students in learning to read and read effectively.
