My Panda Classroom has both 2nd and 3rd grade students. My students are in Mandarin immersion program - which means that they learn all core subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts) in Mandarin for the majority of the day, about 4 hours daily.
My students are curious, excited, and love to learn.
They are incredibly funny and smart and enjoy learning in Mandarin every day.
My classroom incorporates a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met.
My Project
My students love to listen to Mandarin stories! With their current Mandarin reading proficiency, my students are struggling when they read independently in Mandarin. We have many Mandarin books/ other materials on CDs in my classroom, but we do not have a CD player.
A Listening Center would provide my students with opportunities to improve both Mandarin listening and reading skills.
It will help them connect Mandarin characters with the sound during the read along. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to read/listen to Mandarin books at home for various reasons, so having a Listening Center in class that multiple students can use would be very beneficial to them. Also having an 8-station junction box with individual volume controls will provide more options for my sensitive listeners and help my students focus on their independent listening.
