Help me give my students an iPod touch, headphones, stereo player, and accessories for listening centers to develop fluency skills and a love of reading.
My students are enthusiastic and energetic 6 and 7 year olds who love learning! They are creative, adventurous, and have a very unique view of the world! I have a wide range of students, from advanced readers and students with strong logical reasoning skills to students with ADHD, learning disabilities, and special needs. Despite their differences, they love working and learning together.
The greatest thing about my first graders is the tremendous amount of growth and change they experience as they develop into the amazing little humans that they become by the end of the year.
They grow academically, socially, and emotionally, but also teach me new things as well.
My Project
The iPod touch, headphones, stereo player, and accessory items will really provide my students with excellent examples of fluent reading. Students will be able to select engaging and high interest texts to listen to during their independent station time. The CD player will allow them to listen to stories already available in my classroom, while the iPod will allow them access to both fiction and nonfiction texts of their choosing on free sites like EPIC and others.
The listening centers will help increase my students' fluency level when following along on books while also promoting a love of reading!
Research has shown that listening to recordings increases literacy skills which is why it is important to have a listening center. This listening center will help students in their listening skills, fluency, and vocabulary. Please help me give my first grade students the opportunity to have different experiences with books through this listening center.
