This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
When people come into our classroom they would see children engaged in many literacy activities. I would love the children to receive the listening center to add to our balanced literacy classroom. It would be my ambition to have all of my students reading by the end of the school year.
My students come from high poverty households.
They are great kids that are eager to learn and I want to give them a great start. These kids deserve a great education. Our school has the most caring staff and I feel we all work together to do the best for each child.
My Project
With a balanced literacy classroom it would be great to have the listening center so the children can open their minds to some great books. They would be able to access the center throughout the day to listen to wonderful stories and improve those literacy skills. The center would allow up to four children to listen to a book on tape at a time.
As a child grows, listening becomes even more important to school success.
Hearing the sounds within words, and the connected sounds for comprehension is important to success in reading. Early success with reading skills helps the child’s self-concept. The listening center would be a great addition to our balanced literacy classroom.
