This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students enter the classroom eager and willing to learn. It is very important that each of them is met at his or her developmental level and is taught in a way that keeps them excited and engaged in learning.
The students in my first grade classroom are excited about learning and come to the classroom with a wide range of skills, expectations, expertise and abilities.
Imagine traveling to far away countries, sailing the deep blue sea and riding a rocket into outer space! Books open whole new worlds of adventure and excitement to students of all ages.
My Project
Listening to stories read aloud is an important part of early reading development. Students can hear stories read fluently and expressively as they match the story to the text while developing the important skill of active listening.
My students need a listening center and headphones, which would allow groups of students to listen to stories being read to them during literacy centers while they closely follow along with the words on the pages.
As research-based best practices suggest, following along to stories read-aloud greatly improves students' reading as it models fluency, accuracy and expression at a steady rate. These components are crucial to engaging students in the adventures of texts.
A listening center with a CD player will develop my students' reading level, push them to grade level texts and set them on a path for future success as their love for reading is enhanced.
