My Students

My students attend a middle school in an area with a high poverty rate. I, therefore, work as hard as I can to make school a safe and exciting learning space for my students. I am always trying to learn about the newest technologies and ways to engage my students.

I love that my students can teach me as much as I can teach them.

All of my students come from different backgrounds and cultures and they find a way to teach me something new every day. I also work with many students who have special learning needs. Many of the students look forward to school every day knowing that it is a safe place where they are loved and cared for by the adults in the building. The students know it is a place to take risks, be challenged, and grow and learn.

My Project

A listening center will provide students the opportunity to read and collaborate about any given book. Since I have students reading at a wide range of levels, having the books on audio will be able to make the book accessible for all students at all levels. A listening center also provides a structured addition to small groups. Once students can use the listening center, they will be able to work in a group without teacher support so the teacher can work with other small groups of students.

Any and all opportunities to be able to engage in literacy are critical to the development of my students!

Providing a listening center will help my students continue to grow as readers which is so important in preparing my students for the future.
