As a teacher working in a Title I school, I see the challenges my students are faced with every day. I teach in a Title I school in Florida where students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite the hardships, my kindergartners are eager to learn and my goal is to provide them with rich, meaningful learning experiences.
Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting.
We move from learning letters to reading very quickly. We help students learn English while holding on and becoming literate in their own language as well.
They have the enthusiasm for learning and now all they need are the tools to help them become successful!
These items will help enhance my students’ learning through Listening and Writing Centers. Students will use the headphones to listen to stories read aloud to them and follow along with the book. The headphones can also be connected to one another so students can choose to read together. The comfy chairs and mat will help them feel right at home while reading and writing. The journals are perfect for kindergarteners just beginning to write as they have bigger lines and a space to draw a picture. The giant magnetic writing page will be helpful as I model how to write sentences.
