My Students

I have a great group of 5th graders in a high-poverty area. Many speak limited English because they are immigrants and refugees. Their families are typically unable to provide them with basic school supplies. The neighborhood where our school is located is one of the most dangerous in the city. Our district is facing a financial crisis and cannot provide us with the resources these children deserve. I want to create the best possible learning experience for these children so that they can have a better chance at success in school. I love to see the smiles on their faces when they finally understand something they’ve struggled with or learn something new. New materials will only help to create more meaningful experiences for my students.

My Project

My students are lucky enough to be provided with 1:1 technology in our classroom. They each have their own device to work on for learning both at home and in the classroom.

My students need headphones to be able to independently work on their online learning platforms with less distractions.

All of the pieces of our curriculum involve an online component to help students learn at their current levels and progress through the programs. As students are all working on these programs at the same time, it can get noisy in the room and difficult to focus.
