Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Kindergarten in a public school on the east side of San Jose, California. This year I have 20 eager students who come from a low socio-economic neighborhood. 17 of my students primarily speak a language other than English. Students who speak another language have a difficult time learning letter sounds and learning to read. I am constantly looking for ways to increase their skill level and help them gain confidence. To help these students learn to read, I am requesting these literacy packs. This set has a little box for each letter of the alphabet. Each literacy pack includes enough materials for 4 children at once. Each pack has an audio tape, 4 books, and 4 sets of word fans that highlight key vocabulary words. The children listen and follow along as the recording narrates an engaging story that focuses on a specific letter sound. The recording also introduces words that begin with the target letter and then reviews the words and the story for extra reinforcement. These wonderful materials will help children who are just beginning to explore letters, sounds, and words into fluent readers. I will use the literacy packs during center time to help the children learn out weekly focus letter. These materials will not only help my 20 students, but also my partner teacher's 20 students. These durable supplies will help hundreds of students over the coming years. With this helpful resource, my children will be reading in no time!
