Most of the students that attend the school that I teach at come from families living at the poverty level as 87% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is a small neighborhood school with approximately 270 students. I love how 1st grade students are excited about learning and coming to school each day. Their eagerness makes my job so enjoyable and allows me to have a job that I look forward to each day.
My Project
My students will be engaged and on task while going to these literacy listening centers. In first grade we spend a lot of time learning and reviewing long and short vowels, blends and digraphs. We also introduce literary concepts like story sequencing, cause and effect, problem and solution, and identifying the main idea.
These materials will be a great tool for independent practice and reinforcement of the skills we are learning.
My students love going to the listening center and are excited when it is their turn! The students will be able to check their work and see right away how well they did. I love the fact that my students will be exposed to these skills over and over and also in a format that they are excited to use.
